Job Description

Cole Law Group, P.C. is seeking an exceptional Legal Research Specialist to support the Firm's attorneys in complex litigation and other sophisticated legal matters.

This is a research- and writing-intensive position. The successful candidate will have outstanding legal research, analytical, and drafting skills and must be capable of taking a complex legal or factual issue, identifying the governing law, analyzing competing authorities, and producing clear, accurate, and persuasive written work.

This position does not require admission to the bar. Licensed attorneys are encouraged to apply, and bar admission is preferred, but we are equally interested in highly qualified candidates with exceptional legal research and writing credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct sophisticated legal research involving federal and state statutes, regulations, procedural rules, and decisional law.
  • Analyze complex legal and factual issues and prepare concise, well-supported written analyses.
  • Draft motions, briefs, memoranda of law, pleadings, discovery, demand letters, and other substantive legal documents for attorney review.
  • Research procedural, evidentiary, jurisdictional, and substantive issues arising in state and federal litigation.
  • Assist attorneys in identifying and developing potential claims, defenses, and legal arguments.
  • Review and improve legal drafts for organization, persuasiveness, accuracy, citation support, and compliance with applicable rules.
  • Cite-check and verify authorities, quotations, factual assertions, and record citations.
  • Work collaboratively with Firm attorneys across multiple practice areas and jurisdictions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • J.D. strongly preferred, but not required for candidates with substantial demonstrated legal research and writing experience.
  • Exceptional legal research, analytical, and writing ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently research complex and unfamiliar legal questions.
  • Ability to draft persuasive legal arguments rather than simply summarize research.
  • Excellent command of grammar, organization, citation, and professional legal writing.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience with Westlaw, Lexis, or comparable professional legal research tools strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience in litigation, appellate work, a judicial clerkship, law review, legal research, or another writing-intensive legal environment is preferred.
  • Admission to practice law in one or more U.S. jurisdictions is preferred but not required .

Candidates should be prepared to provide a substantive legal writing sample that is substantially their own work and has not been materially rewritten by another person.
